Sunspots – approximately Earth sized

Sunspots are “Earth sized” cooler spots on the surface of the visible sun where strong magnetic loops protrude through the surface causing a visible cooling of material.

The number of sunspots varies with time and exhibits surprising stability in the periodicity of the approximately 11 year cycle. The latest minima of observations was in 2010.
